North Conway, NHLinda Walker of Badger Peabody & Smith Realty was recently awarded the "Good Neighbor Award" by the firm for her extraordinary impact on the community through volunteer work.

The award was presented to Walker during the firm's annual awards gala held in February. This prestigious award is awarded based on nominations from the firm's agents and staff.

Walker was chosen because she is a very active member of the Mt. Washington Valley community, all while being a full time Realtor® at Badger Peabody & Smith Realty. Walker was the first woman hired at the real estate firm 44 years ago by the late Dick Badger and continues to work as a full-time agent helping sellers and buyers in the valley.

For Walker, community service is just a part of what she believes in. Over the past fifty years, Walker has been involved in the Christmas Stocking Project, working in conjunction with the White Mountain Health Center, to help make 45+ area children happy on Christmas Day. Walker said, "With lots of help from others I have headed this project for 50 years and look forward to continuing to do so."

Walker became involved with Arts Jubilee, a non-profit established in 1983. She has been there since the beginning and a board member since 1990. The mission is "to bring world-class, live music performances to the Mt. Washington Valley normally found only in metropolitan areas, and to present an 'Artist in the Schools' program to area schools."  As a music teacher in the public schools for 28 years this mission resonated with Walker.

In addition, Walker is an original member of the Mt. Washington Valley Band that performs in the annual 4th of July parades, performing from town to town. The band also perform concerts in the park and at other community events.

In terms of her commitment to the real estate industry, she was President of the White Mountain Board of Realtors and continues to be the co-chairman of the Community Service committee which does fundraising for "End 68 Hours of Hunger" as well as providing 30 Thanksgiving baskets to families in the Mt. Washington Valley.

As a former teacher, literacy is important to Walker, where she also serves on the Board of Directors for the Pope Memorial Library in North Conway. Other community initiatives include helping as a greeter for Mt. Top Music and a server for the Jen's Friends Hill Climb event held at Mt. Cranmore.

Andy Smith, Broker/Owner of Badger Peabody & Smith Realty said, "Linda is such an inspiration to all of us at the company and for our community as well. Her passion and enthusiasm for both the arts and the people in her community are remarkable. Her enthusiasm carries over to the customers and clients she helps as well. Linda is a pleasure to work with and an inspiration to all of us. It was truly a highlight of the night to be able to present this award to Linda along with Kathleen Sullivan-Head and the others who nominated her."

Walker has been married to David "Doc" Walker for over 57 years and is the proud mother of three grown children and five grandchildren and has lived in North Conway for 55 years. She works out of the firm's North Conway office on White Mountain Highway.

"I was so honored to be chosen for this award by my peers. Community service has been such an important part of my life – it is part of my core philosophy to find ways to give back to my community. I look forward to continuing to help others and meeting others willing to do the same." Walker said.
