Running is a great way to boost your mental and physical health. Whether you've been running for years or are just getting into it, signing up for a race can motivate you to get out the door and run day after day. Luckily, there are several upcoming races in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and with this region's stunning scenery, running these races will surely be an incredible experience. Scheduled for June 17, 2023, the Mount Washington Road Race is a 7.6-mile race that climbs Mount Washington. With 4,650 feet of vertical gain along the race course, it promises to be challenging. Packet pickup is on the Friday before the race from 4-7 p.m., and a cannon blast signals the start at 9 a.m. Runners must secure their own rides off the mountain after the race.
Following the race, there will be a lunch and awards ceremony. Racers get a meal ticket with registration, and family members and friends can join for an additional $20 per person. Online registration for this race is only $30 per person and includes a race t-shirt. One requirement for everyone who runs: They must run with a teddy bear! If you want to run, bike, and swim, register for the White Mountains Triathlon. There are sprint, Olympic, and half distances, making this race suitable for a range of fitness levels. The race is scheduled for Saturday, June 24, 2023, with packet pickup the morning and evening before. The half start is at 7 a.m., the Olympic starts at 8:30 a.m., and the sprint starts at 10:15 a.m.
The swim portion of this race takes place in beautiful Echo Lake. Following the race, there will be an awards ceremony at the Peabody Lodge. Scheduled for July 9, 2023, the Loon Mountain Race is a 6.3-mile race with 3,066 feet of elevation gain. The footing varies between trail, grass ski slop, and cat track. This is one of five Classic Vertical Trail Races in the U.S. and has been featured in Runner's World.
Women start this race at 7:30 a.m., and men at 8 a.m. There will be two aid stations along the course. Trekking poles are not permitted, and the use of headphones is discouraged for safety reasons.
