Did you ever wonder about the origin of the metal foot bridge in Littleton, NH connecting South Street to Riverside Drive? The bridge sways when walking on it, intimidates dogs and children, but inspires the sense of adventure when walking across the Ammonoosuc River. In the 1800's the bridge was erected for workers of the Saranac Glove Factory to walk from their homes on South Street to the factory. Today it is still a means of getting across the river, as a walking route for daily exercise, students heading to and from school and a means to access Littleton's Main Street. This bridge across the Ammonoosuc is one of four in the downtown area and is part of a lovely walk in and around downtown Littleton. Start at the Cottage Street Bridge, follow the path to the covered walking brid...

Whether spending a lazy weekend morning with family or entertaining a houseful of guests, all good things come from the kitchen. With sorrow, we announce the passing of Jack Armstrong. Jack was a long time real estate agent, appraiser and Realtor, known for his keen knowledge of Squam Lake and most recently a member of the Peabody & Smith family. Jack passed away on January 18th. Jack was a long time member of the real estate community in Central, New Hampshire. He took over New Hampshire Colonials from his mother, Mary, and ran the successful firm along with his wife Dana for decades. As a professional real estate agent and appraiser, Jack's knowledge of the lake was tremendous - he knew every inlet, island, house and all the people. Personally, Jack was well liked by all who encountered him and were lucky enough to be part of his world. Jerry Love, a long time agent who worked under Jack and Dana recently said to me, "He was a gentle spirit. For me, he was an employer who became my close friend." I can say the same. I knew Jack for over twenty years, as our professional paths often crossed each other. Perso...

We are pleased to welcome Vince Bell to our team of agents at our Franconia, NH office.Vince Bell of Peabody & Smith Realty Vince is not new to real estate, as he has been a long time property manager in Central New Hampshire, and currently owns his own property management firm. Welcome to Chapter 8 of the epic home-building saga: Building Rockwood. The photos below are from mid-September, and obviously the house has progressed immensely since then!  But, I am very much a summer person, and must say, I remember this day very well. It was a crisp, blue-sky day and unseasonably warm. The gentleman that are building this beautiful home have gotten used to me showing up and they try to scatter so they are not in the pictures - usually they do pretty well.  But I assure you the weather that day was warm enough that they needed water to keep cool and hydrated through the day. The entire exterior of this home will have the Zip system - a water proof plywood.  It will be used on the entire exterior, as well as the roof, too. It provides added protection during the construction process to keep the home watertight and preserves the natural beauty of the exposed timbers.  All of the seams and joints get taped with a rubber membrane for an even tighter constru...
