Homeowners frequently consult with our real estate agents about how to boost their selling price without a tremendous financial investment. Many are surprised by the simplest answer: Clean it; make it sparkle! The results will always be worthy of your efforts. Holderness homes for sale and Littleton homes for sale that have undergone deep cleaning will always command higher prices than those which have not. Here are a few things you can do in the weeks before listing to turn your house into a showplace. We are talking about deep cleaning after you have removed the clutter.
- Start with the common areas like the living room and den.
Start at the top of the room, eliminating dust and spider webs from the corners of the ceiling and the fans. Move on to dusting shelves, electronics, window ledges, and other hard surfaces. Wipe down walls. Polish wood, vacuum the upholstery, and vacuum the floor, moving furniture to reach the carpet underneath. Dust or wash baseboards as necessary. If you spend a half-hour daily on these chores, you'll finish in a week.
- Tackle the kitchen next.
Since these are probably some of the messier tasks to undertake, think about one per day for a week. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to remove the filter in the dishwasher and clean or replace it. The following day, deep-clean the microwave. On day three, clean the grease from the vent hood filter. Next, scrub the stovetop until it shines. Now comes the garbage disposal, unplugging it first for safety reasons. Use an old toothbrush coated with a degreasing soap to scrub the inside of the rubber splash guard. Plug the unit back in and pour in a healthy sprinkling of baking soda, followed by a half cup of white vinegar. Let it sit for 15 minutes, and then run it with cool water. In the next two days, clean the cabinet doors and countertops.
- Freshen the bathroom.
Pour white vinegar into a plastic sandwich bag and attach it to the shower head with a rubber band to remove the scale. Clean the shower curtain and liner. Make a paste of baking soda and water and coat the shower walls. Use a spray bottle to moisten the paste with white vinegar. Rinse with warm water to remove soap scum. Use an all-purpose cleaner to address the sink and vanity. Clean the mirror, eliminating streaks with newspaper or paper towels. Polish the mirror, and wipe down and disinfect the toilet. Clean the baseboards next and finish off by mopping the floor. While it sounds like a lot, you will probably finish these tasks long before the week is over.
- Move to the bedrooms.
Dust or vacuum the ceiling fan blades. Wash or dry clean the curtains. Dust or polish wood furniture, flat surfaces, and electronics. Clean the debris from HVAC registers. Wash bedspreads and pillows. Move the beds to deep clean the area beneath them. Vacuum carpets and rugs. Keep dirty clothes neatly contained in hampers to help maintain a clean space while you're living in the house.
- Address the miscellaneous items.
Wipe down the washer and dryer. Clean debris from tracks of windows and sliding door tracks. Test and replace the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Survey the house and address any areas you haven't considered, like foyers and mud rooms.
