We are pleased to have a chat with one of our current sellers in Littleton, NH. Our homeowners at 7 Reidy Way in Littleton, NH have owned their home for many years, and now offer this 2003 log home to you. This property is a Real Log Gallery Home & was featured in Log Home Living magazine for its beautiful design & high-end finishes including Hubbardton Forge light fixtures throughout & 36" Wolf glass cooktop to accompany LG stainless steel appliances in the well-appointed kitchen. Located 3 miles from Littleton's award-winning Main Street, this home is on a dead-end street & tucked off the road for ultimate privacy.

To get a sense of what is like to live in Littleton, NH we asked a few questions:

BP&S: At this time, you feel the time is right to leave the beautiful Littleton community. What led you to this decision?

Sellers: At our ages, we felt that we needed to be closer to family. We both have health concerns and may need their support in the future. Also, we are no longer able to enjoy many of the activities (hiking, skiing, tubing etc.) that attracted us to the area.

BP&S: Why is it great to live in the Northern part of NH? What did you enjoy about the Greater Littleton area?

Sellers: We love small-town living and the sense of community it offers. After spending most of our adult lives in or near major cities, we were ready for a change of pace. Although Littleton draws outsiders that work, visit, and shop here, it's a working town. We're within a half hour of three major ski mountains and are minutes away from numerous hiking paths including the Appalachian Trail. Littleton has an award winning Main Street and library, Littleton Regional Healthcare, state of the art modern hospital, a first-run movie theater (the Jax Jr Cinemas) and excellent municipal services, as well as five buildings on the National Register of Historic Places

BP&S:  Where do you shop and dine in the White Mountains and in Littleton and why do you enjoy those places?

Sellers: Littleton, NH offers great shopping. Chutter's, home of the world's longest candy counter, is a regular stop for us and any family we host. Whether it's fudge or candies from your youth, it's all there! There is a nice quilt shop on Main Street, Sew Far North, where you can buy all the materials to make a quilt and use their services to have it quilted! We patronize Lahout's – America's oldest ski store. They feature a great variety of sporting goods and clothing at good prices and even have a discount annex. We also enjoy the Healthy Rhino that offers a vast array of organic and environmentally friendly products (vitamins, supplements, cleaning supplies, etc.) to improve wellness. For beer connoisseurs, we have the shop for you - Little Town Brews.
It carries 650 different varieties from all over the world.

For a small town, Littleton has an impressive array of international restaurants (e.g., Indian, Thai, Chinese). Our favorites are the Chinese restaurant on Main Street – Jing Fong, and Jack and Fin's, a small café that specializes in grilled cheese sandwiches and gourmet cupcakes. Fast food options abound and have been upgraded recently with the additions of Starbucks and Jersey Mike's. The Littleton Diner and The 99 Restaurant are good value for money. Polly's Pancake Parlor in nearby Sugar Hill is an award winning option.

BP&S: What did you look forward to the most when you moved to your home in Littleton, NH?

Sellers: We wanted to be involved in the community. We had both just retired and finally had time to devote to volunteering. At first we just wanted to adjust to the peace and quiet and the slower pace. Not long after arriving, however, we found ourselves almost at the point of overextension. There was no end to the opportunities to fill our days. Collectively we were involved in the Littleton Community Center, the Boys and Girls Club of the North Country, Habitat for Humanity, various Town committees, the Select Board, the Littleton Rotary Club, the School Board, quilt show organizing, several singing groups, and church initiatives.

BP&S: What cultural events and other types of events can you recommend to people coming into the community?

Sellers: As you can guess from the above, there are endless opportunities. There are a number of local theater groups and cultural outlets. In Littleton we have Theater Up, Whitefield has The Weathervane, Bethlehem has the Colonial Theater, and St. Johnsbury has the Catamount Arts where you can enjoy live broadcasts from the NY Metropolitan Opera. Some of these organizations are frequently seeking new members, actors, singers, and volunteers. The Opera House in Littleton is a beautiful and historic venue.

BP&S:  What events brought you the most pleasure?

Sellers: We liked the holiday parades and the Memorial Day Procession. More recently, the festivities around Halloween and the hundreds of carved pumpkins staged around town for the Gathering of Jack O'Lanters - all the pumpkins are displayed in the river become a fabulous event drawing hundreds to the town.

BP&S:  What tips would you give to new people coming into the community?

Sellers: Be patient. It's a small town and you can't always find or get what you want or need immediately. You might have to drive to North Conway or Tilton to purchase specialty items. You might have to wait a bit longer than you are used to for a plumber or electrician to appear

BP&S: What were the favorite features of your home? What did you enjoy the most?

Sellers:
1. Privacy. We found a wooded lot in the rural part of town that offers peace and quiet, while only being 5-10 minutes away from services.

2. Limited abutters. We live on a dead-end street with only 9 houses. Our abutters are one other family and a cemetery.

3. Spaciousness. You might think 3,800 sq. ft. is too much for two people, but it suited us perfectly. We have adjoining offices, a guest room with a sitting room, and a unique Rumford fireplace with a chimney that twists through to the roof. Every inch of the 24'x 24' quilting studio is needed and used for machines, fabric, and living accessories like a stackable washer and dryer, a dumbwaiter, a sink and a small balcony.
