Scenic Drives Around the White Mountains | Badger Peabody & Smith RealtyAs summer gives way to fall, we're on the cusp of one of our real estate agents' favorite seasons in New Hampshire. It won't be long now until we reach peak foliage in the White Mountains, and these scenic drives offer great opportunities to take it all in.

  • Kancamagus Highway (Route 112) - Conway, NH, to Lincoln, NH
Arguably New Hampshire's most famous scenic drive, the Kancamagus Highway is a meandering mountain road that heads westward from the town of Conway, featuring these Conway homes for sale, toward the heart of the White Mountains. Along this 34-mile stretch of NH-112, you'll see some incredible views as you gain elevation. Take some time to stop at pull-offs like the Hancock Overlook and Pemigewasset Overlook, or hike one of the several trails that have trailheads on the highway. The journey's endpoint is the charming small city of Lincoln, NH, where you'll see some beautiful Lincoln homes for sale.

  • Franconia Notch (I-93) - Woodstock, NH to Franconia, NH
Franconia Notch is a major mountain pass through the White Mountains, and the section of Interstate 93 that passes through it is easily one of the most visually striking drives in New Hampshire. Stretching 24 miles from Woodstock to Franconia, this section of Interstate is one of the most beautiful in New England, offering panoramic views of Franconia Notch State Park. Take Exit 38 off I-93 for a picnic break and a hike on the Peni Trail or Falling Waters Trail. Farther along, you'll find several excellent dining options near these Franconia homes for sale

  • Daniel Webster Highway (Route 3) - I-93 to Lancaster, NH
You'll see no shortage of vibrant color along the Daniel Webster Highway. This route begins at Exit 35 on I-93 just north of Franconia Notch and heads northward following U.S. Route 3 through Whitefield to Lancaster. Look for some great views of the Presidential Range to the south and east, along with miles of densely wooded hills. This particular stretch of the Daniel Webster Highway ends after 27 miles near these Lancaster homes for sale, but there's nothing stopping you from driving farther. US-3 continues north through Northumberland and Stratford, hugging the Vermont state line.

  • Pinkham Notch (Route 16) - Jackson, NH, to Gorham, NH
The rugged landscape of the northeastern White Mountains is on full display along New Hampshire Route 16, which includes a 20-mile stretch from Jackson to Gorham through the heart of Pinkham Notch. Known as Pinkham Notch Road, this route includes dozens of pull-offs and trailheads. After looking at Jackson homes for sale, be sure to stop at the AMC Pinkham Notch Visitor Center, which sits in the shadow of Mount Washington and consists of a challenging 4-mile trail to the summit. Finally, you'll reach Gorham, which offers a charming downtown district overlooking the Androscoggin River, plus these Gorham homes for sale

  • Mt. Moosilauke Highway (Route 25) Rumney, NH to Glencliff, NH
The 18-mile drive from Rumney to Glencliff is a meandering ribbon of asphalt known as the Mt. Moosilauke Highway. Following New Hampshire Route 25 northward through the western foothills of the White Mountains, this section offers great bang for your buck in terms of scenery and beautiful foliage, but the terrain is a bit less rugged than some of the other routes through the Whites. The community of Warren is a good stopping point halfway, offering several restaurants and numerous Warren homes for sale. The endpoint of this drive is Glencliff, where the Appalachian trail crosses NH-25.
