We love the area we work in, and residents who have lived in Central New Hampshire a long time look forward to winter all year long.
The Squam Lake and Lake Winnipesaukee real estate offerings are ideal for families, from cozy New England cottage-style homes to private waterfront estates and many options in between.
But while we love our homes and the relaxed pace, we love the area's rugged natural beauty to enjoy the winter fun that the area is known for.
Here are 4 activities to enjoy with your family.

Activity #1: Downhill Skiing and Snowboarding
You'll find many great options for skiing and snowboarding with the family, including
Cranmore Mountain in North Conway, and
Gunstock Mountain Resort in Gilford. Need some ideas for February school vacation? Check out the
February Vacation Guide from Ski New Hampshire. It's your definitive guide to all the ski centers in the state, many of which are located in the White Mountains.
Activity #2: Ice Fishing
In Concord, call the
New Hampshire Fish and Game, guardian of our state's fish, wildlife and marine resources. They offer fishing programs with licensed fishing guides who can provide wonderful options for families, from fly fishing to ice fishing. Have you ever wanted to try ice fishing? Saturday, January 20, 2018 is the perfect day for it. You can go ice fishing without a license on
New Hampshire's second annual winter free fishing day.
Activity #3: Cross-Country Skiing
For family-friendly fun, it's tough to beat cross-country skiing under a crystalline blue sky in New Hampshire. Children as young as 6 can have a great time skiing flat groomed trails, while more adventurous members of the family can strike out for woodland trails. And yes, there are hills when you go cross country! From
Great Glen Trails in Gorham to the
Jackson Ski Touring Foundation (rated #1 in the eastern U.S. for cross-country skiing), there are many Nordic centers in Central New Hampshire from which to choose.
Check out this list from Ski New Hampshire. Most centers provide ski rentals, and many offer lessons.

Sure to inspire every age level, the center is named after New Hampshire's native son, Alan B. Shepard, America's first astronaut, and Concord's Sharon Christa McAuliffe, one of seven crew members killed in the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion. Exhibits include a full-size replica of the Mercury capsule that took Alan Shepard into space.
