We liked it a lot, but had grown weary of working for others. Circumstances offered us the opportunity to make a drastic lifestyle move and become our own bosses. The big question was, of course, what to do. We rather quickly decided to explore the lodging or marina sectors of hospitality. Our criteria was relatively simple:

  • We wanted something that we could operate with little or no additional staff.

We are pleased to bring this feature to our blog, a chat with the current homeowners of 15 Maplewood Circle in Meredith, NH. A love story. A man and a woman that both value family above everything else finally found each other in this crazy, hectic world. They merged their homes and also welcomed a new baby to create an incredible family of 8! They built this home 4 years ago to be big enough for everyone and to have lots of little "hang out" spaces throughout the 14 rooms. The picture is complete with a large master retreat where they can pamper themselves in the jetted tub, or just close the door for quiet time. They thought they would cherish this home for many years but a job relocation has pushed them to pack up and find their next stepping stone on life's path. You can benefit from their careful planning and move to this wonderful cul-de-sac location! Read on to hear...

[caption id="attachment_4640" align="alignnone" width="2048"] White Mountains Sugar Shack; creative commons[/caption] Any day now, I expect to be getting my new maple syrup evaporator. Yup, I'm done boiling sap in stainless pans over concrete blocks for hours on end, running back and forth from the trees to the fire, then running from the fire to the house to do the "finishing", then running back out to the fire to add more sap and stir and take the foam off the top of the boiling sap…and all of this running around, just to get a 2 quarts of syrup by the end of the season. I'm going "big time" this year. I'm investing in a hobby evaporator that'll produce gallons, not quarts. At least that's what the ad says. I've been tapping maple trees for years, and though th...

We love the area we work in, and residents who have lived in Central New Hampshire a long time look forward to winter all year long. The Squam Lake and Lake Winnipesaukee real estate offerings are ideal for families, from cozy New England cottage-style homes to private waterfront estates and many options in between. But while we love our homes and the relaxed pace, we love the area's rugged natural beauty to enjoy the winter fun that the area is known for. Here are 4 activities to enjoy with your family.

Michele Penner from our Bretton Woods office shares with our readers some of the great things about Bretton Woods, New Hampshire.

  bretton woods

1. Skiing

With 464 acres of downhill skiing and riding, Bretton Woods is New Hampshire's largest ski area. Sixty-two trails, 35 glades, 3 terrain parks, 10 lifts, and 92% of trails with snowmaking capabilities. Bretton Woods consistently ranks #1 by Ski Magazine in numerous categories. For Nordic skiers there are 100 kilometers of fantastic terrain—both in the open fields and through the woods—95 of which are track and skate groomed.

2. Golfing

Did you know Bretton Woods has two championship golf courses? The Mount Washington 18-hole course celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015—it was designed by Donald Ross in 1915. This challenging course offers the incredible scenic backdrop of both namesakes—the hotel and the mountain! The 9-hole Mount Pleasant course now includes 6-holes with junior tees and kid-friendly pin placements so the whole family can get out and enjoy the game. bretton woods

3. The Omni Mount Washington Hotel

The 200-room Omni Mount Washington Hotel is one of the few remaining grand hotels in New Hampshire. Commissioned to be built by Joseph Stickney, a wealthy coal broker, the hotel took 250 Italian artisans two years to complete. There have been extensive renovations over the past 24 years on this 115-year-old grand old lady, and her surroundings making it a top "bucket list" destination! Tours are available. If you don't know about the history of the hotel, I strongly suggest taking one!

4. The Omni Mount Washington Resort Spa

The Omni Mt. Washington Resort Spa offers 25,000 square feet of full-on pampering! This luxury spa offers facial treatments, body treatments, and full salon treatments for both men and women, as well as a co-ed lounge, private ladies and men's lounges where you can relax both before and after treatments. But wait, there's more: luxurious shower facilities, locker rooms, steam rooms, saunas, and an outdoor hot tub. An unbelievable way to spend a day or just a few hours.
