For me, much of what makes Squam Lake so special, and attracts so many from all over, is how little it has changed in the last 100 years. What you remember about going to the lake as a child is still here: the scent of knotty pine as you lay on a cot on the screened porch and read about the Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew; listening to the quiet sounds of summer as you sit on the edge of the dock, toes dangling in the crystal clear water,  filling that tin pail with the early morning catch of perch and sunfish; the sweet smell of  pine needles underfoot  as you walk along the edge of the water with nary a care or concern in the world. Campfires with s'mores, maple walnut ice cream at the Town dock, rope swings over the water. Does that world still exist? Well, it surely does, and a visit to Squam will rekindle those precious memories, and spark new ones for you and your family. And did you know that Squam was just ranked by Outside Magazine as the runner up in the "2014 Travel Awards – Best Lake" Come visit, see why Squam Lake received this prestigious rank, and I'll guarantee you'll stay for the next 100 years!
