Where to See Alpine Wildflowers Around the White Mountains | Badger Peabody & Smith RealtyAlpine wildflowers are striking examples of how nature's beauty can triumph even in harsh conditions. Now is the time to plan your trip to see these springtime blooms around the White Mountains. Here are a few of the places  our real estate agents recommend near our Plymouth homes for sale this spring.

  • Androscoggin Ranger Station - 300 Glen Road, Gorham, NH 03581
Androscoggin Ranger Station is a small outpost nestled on the northern side of the White Mountains National Forest. Accessible on foot or by car, this spot near our Gorham homes for sale has three thriving wildflower gardens on its grounds. Some of the species you might see here include rhodoras, goldenrods, meadowsweets, and asters, all growing naturally with little human intervention. Most of these plants also attract butterflies, so keep an eye out for the colorful creatures while you're out. You might even spot the rare New Hampshire state butterfly, the Karner blue!

  • Rattlesnake Mountain – Rumney, NH 03266
Although the desolate slopes of Rattlesnake Mountain might seem like a strange place to go looking for wildflowers, you'll find plenty of alpine blooms among the rocks. You'll get access to the best flower-hunting spots by climbing up parts of the cliff face, but there's plenty to see here on foot as well. Look out for rare species like Douglas' knotweed and red trillium mixed in with more common foxgloves and ferns.

  • Sawyer Pond Trail – Sawyer River Road, Bartlett, NH 03812
Sawyer Pond Trail is a great place to see some wildflowers if you're not feeling up to a long woodland hike. This relatively short out-and-back trail is within easy reach of many of our Bartlett homes for sale, can be walked in a little more than an hour, and features an easy path sprinkled with colorful wildflowers. You can see beautiful blooms like pink lady's slipper, mountain wood sorrel, and bluebeard lilies from almost any point on the trail, so you don't even have to complete the path if you don't want to. Make it to the end, though, and you'll be rewarded with a stunning view of Sawyer Pond.

  • The Rocks – 113 Glessner Road, Bethlehem, NH 03574
The Rocks is a massive historic estate near our Bethlehem homes for sale with two trails and several beautifully preserved original buildings on its grounds. It's currently being used to farm sustainably raised Christmas trees, but there are also plenty of alpine wildflowers to enjoy outside of the designated farming areas. You'll find plenty of pretty purple lupines here as well as other common alpine flowers like diapensias and mountain avens. There are also some terraced gardens and picnicking areas on the property where similar wildflowers grow.

  • Lincoln Woods Native Plant Pollinator Garden – Kancamagus Highway, Lincoln, NH 03251
The Lincoln Woods Native Plant Pollinator Garden is another patch of flowerbeds decorating an outpost in the White Mountains National Forest. In this case, it's just outside the Lincoln Woods Ranger Station, a short drive away from many of our Lincoln homes for sale. The location has been carefully cultivated with more than a dozen pollinator-friendly plants that are indigenous to the area, including bearberry and purple-flowering raspberry bushes. Remember, though: this garden has a job to do. Take care not to disturb the plants during your visit so the bees and butterflies can enjoy them too.

If you've always wanted to live near scenic alpine locations like these, you're in luck. Our team will be happy to help you find the perfect White Mountains home for your needs and budget. Contact us today to speak to one of our agents and get started.
