Choosing the Perfect TV for Your Space | Badger Peabody & Smith RealtyWhen looking at Franconia homes for sale, your main thought is how your current furniture and appliances will look in them. However, there are a few areas where you should think about upgrading. If your TV is over a few years old, you can probably get a bigger one with a clearer picture for a fairly reasonable price. On World Television Day (November 21st), you deserve to relax and watch your favorite shows. Here's how to find a TV to help you make the most of that experience.

  • Size
When choosing a TV for a living room with a viewing distance of 12 feet, it's important to find a balance between size and comfort. According to the general rule of thumb, which recommends a viewing distance of 1.5 to 2.5 times the TV's diagonal length, a TV size between 57 to 96 inches is ideal. For a more precise recommendation, a 65- to 75-inch TV would offer an immersive experience without overwhelming the room. Opting for a 4K resolution is advisable for such sizes, ensuring crisp and detailed images. This range provides a comfortable viewing experience, reducing eye strain and enhancing the enjoyment of your favorite shows and movies.

  • Field of View
Another factor in determining television size is field of view—how comfortably can you see the screen from where you're sitting? Do you have to turn your head to see what's on the edge of the screen? For a rough estimate of what size television you'll need to achieve a comfortable field of view, measure the distance from where the TV will go to where you'll be sitting in inches and divide that number by 1.2. So, for example, if your couch is 10 feet from where you'll be mounting the screen, that's 120 inches, making the ideal TV size at least 60 inches.

  • Resolution
This depends largely on your personal preference, as well as how much you're willing to spend. For most casual viewing, a 1920x1080 resolution TV is fine. This means the screen's width is 1,920 pixels, and the length is 1,080 pixels—also called Full HD. If you want to host parties to watch movies or the big game, you might consider a 4K TV. It has four times the amount of pixels (3840x2160) in the same space, making the picture much sharper and clearer. Finally, if image quality is really important to you, consider an 8K TV with a 7680x4320 resolution. With a picture four times better than a 4K TV, it works best with screens 65 inches or more.

  • Mounting
Will you mount the TV on the wall or buy a television stand to put it on? If the former, where on the wall should you put it? If the latter, will it go on top of a shelf or a TV stand? How high should the screen be? A good rule of thumb is that the center of the screen should be roughly 42 inches from the floor. Measure that, and you'll have a good idea of where your TV should go.
