Wings Markets in Thetford and Fairlee, Vermont recently changed hands. Don and Mary (Wing) Davenport announced the sale of both markets to Sam Adams of Williamstown, VT.

Wings Market was started by Mary's father, Stan, in Thetford in 1954 and has been a family owned and operated business since. Mary worked in the store and eventually purchased the store upon her father's retirement. In 1994 Mary and her husband, Don, purchased some property and opened the Wings Market in Fairlee, Vt in 1995. Both are full-service markets with active delis. The Fairlee location offers gas and diesel as well.

The Davenport's hoped to sell the markets to someone who would continue to operate it as it has been and to keep the Wings Market name. "Don and I had been chatting off and on with Sam about the stores and when we decided it was time, we started to talk with him a bit more seriously." Don added, "We both feel Sam is a good fit for our stores and the community and are confident he will continue to offer the area quality products and good service. We are very comfortable leaving Wings Market(s) in his hands."

Adams is no stranger to the grocery business. He owns and operates a store in Williamstown, VT known as "Pump and Pantry". "We had heard that the Davenports were considering selling at least one of the stores a year or so ago and reached out to them. One thing led to another and we started discussing purchasing both stores. My family and I are delighted since we feel this will be a good fit for our business moving forward. We look forward to becoming active participants in the Thetford and Fairlee communities and hope to continue to foster the goodwill that the Davenports have left us."

Adams indicated there will be some upgrades to systems and some modernizing over the next few months but other than that, the transition should be seamless. Many of the Davenports' staff will continue with him so there will be familiar faces to greet and assist everyone as they shop.

Mary M. Doherty, an associate Broker with Badger Peabody & Smith Realty was pleased to represent the Davenport's and assist Adams with this transaction.
