Joy fits her name - she is a Joy! Learn more about Joy and her journey into real estate.
Joy, how did you land in Real Estate? And how long have you been an agent?
It's been a long time. I worked as an part time agent for a short time at 2 other agencies before I came to work at Badger Peabody & Smith. After a big change in my personal life, I needed something full time. I had 4 kids that I needed to support, and when Andy Smith reached out, it was the perfect fit. I don't know the exact date, but it was around 3 months after Andy and Jerry started Peabody & Smith Realty, so it's been a long time – almost 30 years ago!
What did you do before you became a real estate agent?
When my kids were in school, I felt like all I did was drive them around. I would be picking up Rachel while dropping off Brooke, so I thought to myself I ought to make this a job and became a school bus driver. Fun fact, I used to pick up our own Chrissy Smith! She was my last stop on Mt. Eustis. Last year I had to have some work done on my car, so the roles were reversed, and she picked me up for work! Before that, I was a flight attendant for 12 years. I worked for Allegheny Airlines, and continued that journey even after I moved up to Littleton.
Name a role model who has inspired you in your career.
Wayne Golden, he was at the one of the previous agencies I worked at when I started my Real Estate career. He was just an honest person; he knew Littleton, everyone, and everything about it. I used to say, is there anything you don't know in this town? I saw him recently and he asked if my trivial was as good as his was!
What do you like to do for fun outside of work?
I like gardening a lot. I can't wait for spring when we can get outside and get to work. I broke my knee a few years ago, but before that I loved to ski and hike. I have some pictures of hiking out west with my daughter Rachel, and granddaughter Raina. I am also an avid fisher, I have been fly fishing in many places including Alaska. One of my favorite people to spend time with are my grandkids, too.

Where do you like to go for vacation?
I love to go anywhere on the coast of Maine. We used to go to Jonesport. I also love visiting Colorado. In 2019, my friend and I went on a cruise in Alaska, it was awesome. It was incredible, we didn't hang around the boat much. We went fishing, we took the helicopter up to where they keep the sled dogs in the summer. We flew on top of a glacier, and saw at least 25 bald eagles, I would say they are the equivalent of chickadees here. My friend Susan Jones, who used to work here at Badger Peabody & Smith Realty moved to Sitka Alaska, so we got to have lunch with her and her husband. I had always wanted to go, and I am so glad I got the chance.

What is your favorite local charity?
I enjoy delivering Meals on Wheels, out of the Littleton Senior Center. We deliver one Tuesdays, and I love getting to check in with all of the people on our route! Another great local organization we have in our area is AHEAD, Affordable Housing, Education, and Development. I donate, as well as volunteer in the summer when they have their events.
