We are pleased to bring a new feature to our blog, a chat with one of our current sellers in Bethlehem and Carroll/Twin Mountain, NH. Our homeowners at 226 Beechwood Drive have owned their home for many years, and now offer this remarkable custom built Deck House to you. This custom-designed home was built with environmental sustainability and low maintenance in mind. To get a sense of what is like to live in Bethlehem and Carroll/Twin Mountain, NH we asked a few questions: Beechwood DriveP&S: At this time, you feel the time is right to leave the beautiful White Mountain community. What led you to this decision? Sellers: We found that as our children have grown, we are not using the house as much. We are sad to be selling this house that we so lovingly designed and where we raised our children to share in the excitement of skiing and hiking above tree line. This was a place where they too have developed a passion for the outdoors and have become environmentally aware of the fragility of our surroundings. We are truly grateful for the many memories gathering family and friends together here. However, as all things in life, times have changed and we feel that it is the right time for our family to move on to new experiences. We would like to offer the opportunity for someone else to experience the serenity and beauty this home has to offer. P&S: Why is it great to live in the heart of the White Mountains of New Hampshire? What did you enjoy about the area? Sellers: This area is a well-kept secret. It is uncrowded and peaceful yet offers many town and outdoor amenities within close proximity. We have taken advantage of the numerous outdoor activities available nearby namely; downhill and cross country skiing, world class hiking in the Presidential Mountain ranges as well as small hikes for all abilities, open road biking and mountain biking, golfing at local Donald Ross designed golf courses, walking in the neighborhood and elsewhere, snowshoeing, canoeing and swimming in the many rivers and lakes nearby. Beechwood DriveWe have seen wildlife in our yard and in the neighborhood: moose, bear, turkeys, rabbits, birds, and hawks. We have also taken advantage of a number of cultural opportunities in the area. The Mount Washington Hotel and Resort and all its offerings, the Cog Railway going to the top of Mount Washington, restaurants, spa, and events. P&S: Where do you shop and dine in the community and why do you enjoy those places? Sellers: The town of Bethlehem, NH is the highest elevated town on the East Coast. The town offers small quaint restaurants as well as a new brewery Rek-lis Brewing Company which has become a true favorite for locals and tourists. The town of Littleton, NH has won many accolades, including one of the 50 best small towns in America. In Littleton, you can find shopping and wonderful dining on the Main Street as well as big box stores in the commercial zone. P&S: What did you look forward to the most when you came to your home? Sellers: Each time we arrive at the house the view takes our breath away and immediately all the stresses float away. We always looked forward to gathering with friends, preparing meals in the open kitchen and enjoying meals at the large dining table, where we can sit for hours talking and laughing, playing pool, or playing games in front of the fire. Beechwood DriveP&S: What cultural events and other types of events can you recommend to people coming into the community? Sellers: Theaters include The Colonial Theater in Bethlehem, which is a historic theater, and the Jax Jr. Cinemas in Littleton. A great Labor Day tradition, the Lancaster Fair, fireworks in Bethlehem and at the Mt. Washington Hotel for different events. The Flying Monkey Theater in Plymouth offers celebrity performers! Great attractions include Santa's Village, Storyland, and nearby North Conway. It's always easy and fun to browse the many antique stores in the area. P&S: What events brought you the most pleasure? Sellers: We continue to find pleasure filling our days with all of the above activities, not to mention there are numerous local school events, parades, and fairs. P&S: What tips would you give to new people coming into the community? Sellers: Take full advantage of the White Mountain National Forest and the many offerings in the towns of Bethlehem and Littleton. You can find a local artisan sitting at the bar most nights at the Cold Mountain Café. He designs and makes custom lamp shades in Bethlehem. You can find his works at the Cafe and also at the Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa in Whitefield. His son has created an amazing oriental rock garden in town where you can purchase unusual plantings and wander among his creations. Be sure to check out his hen house! P&S: What were the favorite features of your home? What did you enjoy the most? Sellers: Sitting on the deck with a cup of coffee, listening to the birds, or seeing a moose rustling in the nearby bushes—I always think he must also love the serenity of our spot. An unobstructed view looking south with a 180-degree view looking over 27 mountain peaks of the grand White Mountain National Forest: a view that will never change because nothing can be built there and not another structure in view, not even a power line. Only the occasional swirl of smoke from a campfire or fireworks around the holidays which are always a fun surprise! A view which we brought inside our home with the custom designed 18-foot wall of windows. A view that draws us, our family and our house guests into serenity. As we immerse ourselves into the view our weekly work stresses slip away and are forgotten. Having built our house with the focus of low maintenance and environmental sustainability has allowed us more time to ski, hike, swim, canoe, and bike. There are world-class activities right out the door or just up the road. We have cherished our holidays, vacations and weekends with friends and family, sitting in front of the fire, playing board games, doing 1000-piece puzzles, enjoying apres ski at the kitchen counter, chatting and laughing, dining under the artisan made antler chandelier (antlers that were found in the Maine woods), taking a sauna or a steam shower after a strenuous activity day, or stoking the backyard campfire under the canopy of the Milky Way. We love this house and we hope you will, too. Come in and enjoy the view!
