And in one of our meetings we decided as an office we would like to give back to our community on a regular basis. We already donate to the food shelf and pick a couple of children from the Caring Tree at Christmas time but we wanted to do more. We threw around a few ideas and settled on Meals on Wheels. A few months ago we started delivering on Tuesdays to one of their Littleton routes. We were not sure how it would work with our busy schedules—but I have to say for me personally it's been so rewarding. It takes about an hour or so of our time. And each and every person is happy to see us. So I did a small interview with Judy Ash from the Littleton Meals on Wheels program at the Littleton Area Senior Center. Perhaps you could benefit from this program or know someone that could. Or maybe you would like to donate some of your time too? They are happy to talk to you about how you can help and they welcome everyone. Angela: What area does Meals on Wheels cover? Judy: Littleton, Franconia, Bethlehem, Easton, Sugar Hill, Lisbon, Lyman, Landaff Angela: Who can get Meals on Wheels? Judy: People over 60, or if they receive SSI for disability for 18 and over, there is an income deadline. If you are a senior and receive Social Security you are eligible. Angela: How many do you currently serve? Judy: Meals on wheels is about 165–170 a day. And in the Littleton Area Senior Center we serve anywhere from 30–70. Thursdays are the popular day. Angela: How much does it cost? Judy: By donation. And if someone can't afford to donate they still can receive meals. Angela: When does Meals on Wheels deliver? Judy: Monday through Friday unless there is a winter storm. Angela: What if there is a storm? Everyone is given two frozen meals at the beginning of winter. If there is a snow storm, I personally call each and every person to let them know. We will restock those meals in the following week with frozen meals. Angela: What is a weekend bag? Judy: Well, we put in a couple of frozen meals for them to use over the weekend if they should need them. Angela: What if someone would like to receive Meals on Wheels? Judy: They can contact us here at the Littleton Area Senior Center at 603-444-6050. Ask for Meals on Wheels. And we will set you up on the schedule. Angela: What if someone would like to help out on Meals on Wheels? Judy: They can contact us here and we can always use some extra hands to help. Angela: What about someone is would like to just fill in occasionally? Judy: We are always looking for someone to fill in on routes. Angela: Is there at time limit on how long they can receive Meals on Wheels? Judy: There is no expiration. And if they need a little help while maybe recovering from a surgery or just during winter, we can help with that too. To learn more, you can contact Judy at the Littleton Senior Center at 603-444-6050 or visit them online. For me, I am proud that our company, Peabody & Smith Realty, is dedicated to the communities we serve. In 2017, we donated over $37,000 to the communities we serve. We are an independent firm, with global reach and local roots and we are pleased to be a part of the communities we live in and serve.
