Footings are poured to help ensure that the foundation of a house doesn't shift[/caption]
If you're just joining us on this journey, be sure to read parts 1 and 2 before continuing.
Part 1:
Dick and Nancy vs. a boulder
Part 2:
What's in a Name?
Twin Mountain/Carroll, NH - Progress is being made on the home site at Ledgewood! The ground has been dug for the foundation. Although it's not overly exciting in the picture - it really is! Because the footings have been poured, and the footings are basically the foundation for the foundation. They are meant to keep the foundation from shifting. And as we all know, the foundation is the most important part of the whole house and has to be done right.
The next step will be to bring in forms and pour the walls. But more about those steps later.
Part of the beauty of Ledgewood, I have to say, are the wild flowers. Dick and Nancy Gould have planted thousands and thousands of lupines. They line the paved private roads and open common areas. Especially around the two ponds. The two ponds are open to all owners and their accompanied guests.
The lower pond has two beautiful pavilions perfect for a picnic lunch and enjoying the pond. As I walked around trying find the perfect angels to capture the beauty (and no the pictures don't do it justice), I found wild strawberries everywhere.

And yes, there are fish in the pond. The day I took these photos it was fairly warm and the bigger fish were hiding where it was a bit cooler. But the dragon flies and frogs were delightful to watch and enjoy.
When you drive through after the lupines have passed by, you will see they do not mow the sides of the road until they have properly gone to seed. This helps the lupines to reseed and spread to cover the sides of the road for more beauty next year.
