We are pleased to bring a new feature to our blog, a chat with our home sellers at 31-39 Memory Lane in Whitefield, NH. They have owned this property on Forest Lake in New Hampshire for a few years, and now offer this 5 cabin waterfront property to you. With over 2 acres of level land and 6 docks this is a quaint family compound where memories will be cherished for a lifetime!

To get a sense of what is like to live on Forest Lake in Whitefield, NH we asked a few questions:

P&S: At this time, you feel the time is right to leave the beautiful Forest Lake community. What led you to this decision? Sellers: Well, we own a houseboat on Lake Memphremagog in Northern Vermont , and there is just only so much time to enjoy summer! We feel that the cabins are just simply not being enjoyed as much as they should, and we know there is someone out there that would love them as much as we do! P&S: Why is it great to own the cabins on Forest Lake? [caption id="attachment_3600" align="alignright" width="300"]whitefield cabin Sunset on Forest Lake[/caption] Sellers: It's too hard to name just one thing for sure. The sunsets, bon fires, cookouts, family get-together's, tranquility of listening to the loons in the morning. I could go on and on! But I will miss the boat rides especially at sunset the most. P&S: What did you enjoy about the lake community? Sellers: The overall friendliness of the entire lakefront community. The fireworks were always so fun! Some from this way, some from that way. It was a lovely display the whole 4th of July week every year. P&S: Where do you shop and dine in the community and why do you enjoy those places? Sellers: The Mountain View Grand is my favorite because it's so picturesque. The grandness and the history you can feel as you just simply drive up, and it's not far from the lake. From their casual Harvest Tavern or the Club House. But for that extra special date night, the 1865 Wine Cellar is just the perfect spot. Another great place we love - Bailiwicks on Main Street in Littleton. I just love the shrimp wrap and fried pickles. And of course the martini's. Then for wood fired pizza, pretzel's and craft beer you have to go to Schilling's. Be sure to try the veggie pizza or the maple bacon chicken pizza. And try to get a deck seat so you can enjoy the Ammonoosuc River on a sunny day. They even have deck heaters to enjoy the view on a chilly night. [caption id="attachment_3599" align="alignright" width="300"]whitefield cabin Canoeing on the lake[/caption] When we have our out of town guests we always make sure to bring them to Chutter's – home of The world's longest candy counter. It pleases everyone of all ages. With nostalgic candy from childhood to every flavor jelly bean you can imagine. And for a little pampering, I love Littleton Nails & Spa for a mani/pedi day. Jimmy and Evy will take special care of you. And no matter the season, Lahout's Ski Shop in Littleton is the best to find your outside gear. From kayaking to hiking, skiing, snowboarding. In fact, it's the oldest ski shop in America. For the perfect diner breakfast (served all day!) you will be sure to be filled up at Topic of the Town, on the Main Street. We love to window shop and stroll down Main Street in Littleton. With shops like Bella Funk Boutique, Nest of Littleton, TM Jewelers, Sterling Works, The Little Village Toy & Book Store, there is something for everyone. I love the flower baskets that line the Main Street in the summer and the Littleton Piano Project. If you are lucky you can even catch some great talent as you stroll by. P&S: What did you look forward to the most when you came to your home on Forest Lake? [caption id="attachment_3601" align="alignright" width="300"]whitefield cabin Cabin screened porch[/caption] Sellers: Waking up having my coffee on the screened porch. I could sit without bugs and listen to the loons that nest on the little island just around the corner from the cabins. I loved watching my grandchildren play in the water. The water stays shallow for quite a ways allowing them to play and enjoy the sandy shore. One of my favorites is watching them catch a fish right off the dock. And then in the winter we would shovel off an area for ice skating. The kids loved the ice fishing and of course the bigger kids loved to be able to snowmobile right from the cabins! P&S: What cultural events and other types of events can you recommend to people coming into the community? Sellers:   There is so much to do in this area, and something for all ages. There are so many hiking trails. From short simple family friendly trails to longer all day hikes. There is something for everyone. There is even a paved recreation path all the way through Franconia Notch, which is great in all seasons – you can snowmobile through it in the winter, and walk or bike through it in the spring, summer and fall! In the summer, there is the Mt. Washington Cog Railway that goes up to the summit of Mt Washington. If you don't want to go to the top of the Northeast's Highest Peak, you can always enjoy a snack and a beverage on the veranda of the Omni Mt. Washington Hotel and enjoy the view of Mt. Washington. Having some quiet time on the veranda there is always a pleasure. For the adventurous ones, there is the amazing zip line – the Bretton Woods Canopy Tour, located at the Mt. Washington Resort at Bretton Woods – and the Canopy Tour operates year round. Although we love the fireworks on the lake, the Omni Mt. Washington Hotel always has an elaborate display for the 4th of July every year! whitefield cabinSome of the things that my children and grandchildren have enjoyed over the years are Story Land, Santa's Village, Clark's Trading Post, Whale's Tale Water Park, Squam Lake Natural Science CenterThe Montshire Museum, Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium. All are in a reasonable drive away. The Weathervane Theater & The Colonial are all within 30 minutes and offer wonderful productions all summer long. The fall is so much prettier here than pictures ever really show. And a drive down the Kancamagus Highway is just breathtaking. And of course The Highland Games in Lincoln are so entertaining. Then the art show on Main St in Littleton is the last weekend in September and with tons of local artists there is something for everyone. And in the winter there is the skiing at Bretton Woods, Loon Mountain and Cannon Mountain – those are the closest ski resorts, but there are so many mountains in a short drive! In addition, there is cross country skiing at Ski Hearth Farm in Sugar Hill, NH. Of course there is the winter hiking and snowshoeing. But there is also snowmobiling. And it's great to be able to snowmobile right from the cabins on Forest Lake and easily access the state Corridor trail system. P&S: What events brought you the most pleasure? [caption id="attachment_3595" align="alignright" width="300"]whitefield cabin Main cabin[/caption] Sellers: We just love the fireworks on Forest Lake during 4th of July week. There was always something going on. Fall foliage is so breathtaking. Pictures just don't do the beauty of our area justice. The colors are so vibrant. But honestly it was the simple things - watching my grandchildren play in the lake, fish, ice skate and ice fish - the simple bon fires roasting marshmallows. P&S: What tips would you give to new people coming into the community? Sellers: Get out and explore everything our area has to offer. There is so much to do from the Weathervane Theater to hiking trails like Lonesome Lake in Franconia Notch. There is truly something for everyone. But don't forget to sit back, relax and take in a sunset or two! [caption id="attachment_3597" align="alignright" width="300"]Kitchen Kitchen[/caption] P&S: What were the favorite features of your home? What did you enjoy the most? Sellers: Well, we mainly used the Main Cabin (https://my.matterport.com/show/?m=Cq57PT4prLr, the biggest one right on the water) and I just love the feel of the cottage. The natural wood and open concept. I would sit on the screened porch to enjoy my morning coffee and just listen to the sounds of the lake. It was so peaceful. The big deck and fire pit being right there. But honestly having the lake literally just steps away from my front door I will miss. You can't build that close anymore and it just is a treasure. On a nice evening with the windows open you can hear the water lap the shore. It's just such a tranquil sound. A great way to fall asleep.
