2. Fox Hill Park, accessible from Dow Ave in Franconia, NH. This is a trail system open to the public consisting of 99 acres of woodlands and 1430 feet of river frontage. There are 4 main trails for 3 miles of hiking, biking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. There is parking and a kiosk at the entrance and there are several benches along the trails. The land was donated to the town by John and Cynthia Coffin in 1990 and is protected by The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests.
3. Ice skating rink with warming hut, music, lights and refreshments for sale. Organized hockey nights too! Located in the downtown!
4. Robert Frost Museum on Ridge Road in Franconia, NH. The museum was founded in 1976 when a group of neighbors persuaded other folks at the Franconia Town Meeting to approve the purchase of the farmhouse where Robert Frost and his family lived. He had spent 19 years summering in the area. The Frost Place is a nonprofit educational center for poetry and the arts which is owned by the town of Franconia.
5. ACT (Ammonoosuc Conservation Trust) based in Sugar Hill, NH. Their mission is to conserve land for the future growth and well being of the area. They have over 1,483 acres in land trust in the tri-town area.
6. The Iron Furnace, the only blast furnace still standing in New Hampshire. The octagonal stone stack that is visible on the far bank of the Gale River is all that remains of a 200-year-old iron smelter shown on an 1805 map of Franconia.
7. The River Walk Trail is located behind the Franconia Hardware Store and runs along the Gale River behind The Village Store, Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank, and the Garnet Hill parking area. A pretty pathway along the Gale River with picnic and sitting areas that ends at the Iron Furnace.
8. Easton seceded from the town of Landaff, in 1876 all of the land in East Landaff was formed into a new township, Easton! At town meeting there were contentious times with guns drawn over the separation of towns.
9. Wells Road in Franconia, NH is noted as a scenic byway.
10. New England Ski Museum! It's not only a great showcase for ski history but they have a fabulous retail operation full of wonderful gifts for anyone on your list!
