Winter wonderland in the White Mountains of New Hampshire
I was privileged to enjoy a few days of "rest and relaxation" while the kids were on Christmas break from school. We went skiing at Bretton Woods, sledding in the back yard most of all enjoyed our new toy for Christmas, a Wii console. If you are not familiar with the Wii system it is the most incredible gaming system with intuitive controls that literally my 75(ish?) father can play and scads of games that everyone in the family can enjoy. Now that that Bethlehem has more snow the kids have been clamoring to get the snowmobiles out and I am looking forward to riding the local trails in our area. Bretton Woods Opens!
Their website said they would open mid-November, but not many believed it. For all you nonbelievers, the ski area was opened on November 7th! 1 out of 101 trails opened, but hey what did you expect! A few anxious skiers did take advantage of the $10.00 fee to ski, what I have to believe, is the first skiing in NH for the season. Proceeds of the day went to the Adaptive Ski Program and/or the 2
Attention Bretton Woods Skiers and Riders!
I awoke to find a fine snow on my car, which when I opened the door and heard the wonderful hum of the snow guns, realized was the over spray from the ski area, and not just a heavy frost.
It won't be long now before we are out on the slopes! Traditionally the ski area has opened Thanksgiving weekend, however, this year they are hoping to open mid-November, providing Mother Nature cooperates with temperatures.
Remember the weather is always different at Bretton Woods! 14
First Snowfall at Bretton Woods
Today we awoke to our first snowfall at Bretton Woods! You know what that means, time to put away that lawn furniture and get out the skis, snowboards, snowshoes and all the winter garb!

Bretton Woods: Living At the End of the Rainbow
Just on my way home the other day, I caught a glimpse of this beautiful rainbow. Having my camera with me at all times, I pulled over and took a picture. The rainbow seemed to end just over the Mount Washington Resort at Bretton Woods, which got me to thinking that Bretton Woods truly is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
